Bus FAQs

NOTE: The basic bilingual ‘how to complain’ flyer as of 2024 is in the post at https://www.pistnyc.org/resources/bus-problems

Below are links to, and description of, a more detailed live document which school staff and advocates have found helpful.

A printable 2 sided flyer with our most Frequently asked questions is available

in English at tinyurl.com/PISTAdvice and in Spanish at tinyurl.com/PISTConsejo

This document gets updated every summer and/or when we find out about changes to the Office of Pupil Transportation’s website, phone or procedures (with your help!). As of July 2024 the Spanish update has failed to keep up with with some unexpected changes in topic 5.

The topics are:

#1 HOW TO GET ROUTE INFORMATION    & emergency contact card.

#2 - OPT maximum times* by age level and in / out of home borough

#3 - If route doesn’t show up, takes much longer, or vehicle is unsafe:

#4 Resources for general transportation; foster & temporary housing bus rights; and to seek IEP busing or medical accommodations on the bus

#5 - Specific situations which you might need to use website, phone or email to address

#6 - Details to include in complaints

#7- Where to forward the most urgent emails for support:

After you read that, feel free to reach out with further questions.
