Today was a half day at school. At around noon, a friend, and parent of our child's classmate calls and informs us that our child is stranded outside the school with no sign of the bus. Dismissal was at 11:30 AM that day. Our friend informs us that she happened to be walking by the pick-up area because she picked her child up that day. She saw our child standing there with a school staff member after all the buses and other pupils had left and decided to inquire about what was going on.
Upon learning that they had been standing there for half-an-hour with no sign of our child's bus, our friend called us. After speaking to the school staff member on our friend's cell phone, we requested that our child be released to her. Our friend brought our child home.
We shudder to think what would have happened had our friend not happened to be at school and saw our child. She had been picking up her child because of a problem with their bus route home, of course. Their bus route home was taking an excessive amount of time to bring her child home, in violation of their IEP.
