My child’s school bus had an accident in our neighborhood on October 27, 2010. I could hear the sirens of the emergency vehicles from our home, and little did I know that my child was there.
Nobody called to inform me of the situation despite the fact that they spent three hours on the bus during the ordeal. Fortunately nobody was injured, but I only learned about it that night, in a short letter from the school.
My child told me that, together with the other kids, was crying. My child was asking "I want my Mommy", "I want to go home". The Matron asked my child to RELAX with an unpleasant tone of voice -as reported by my child.
I immediately called the Bus Company. They avoided me by placing me on hold or hanging up. I was finally able to leave a message, but they never returned my call.
CFN told me that the Bus Company and OPT had followed procedures, and that they were under no obligation to inform me about the accident.
OPT, conversely, received my complaint, gave me a reference number, and said they would get back to me.
Mr. Berlin says that a parent is supposed to be informed about an accident within 15 minutes, but a month has passed, and I have not heard back from any of the involved parties.
