My child's bus arrived home today at 4:54 pm. School let out at 2:40 pm. I called the USA united fleet at 4:31 and spoke to a dispatcher who assured me that the bus would be arriving in 7 minutes The bus arrived at my door at 4:54. My child has consistently been dropped off after 4:30 and even later since we moved to this route at the end of . . . read more »

More Late Arrivals and Excessive Time

Late arrival- bus arrival times are logged daily at all locations. Children consistently arrive late to school and miss mandated therapies scheduled for first period. Late arrivals have gotten slightly better as the year has progressed but are still a problem. Experience from past years shows that the late arrivals will pick up again when the . . . read more »

Complaints Ignored

I have a student, who because of the amount of children on his bus, gets to school at 9 AM every day. The bus must pick up and drop off students at multiple schools. We are talking about special students who need every minute that they can receive at school, and they are missing an entire period of learning and teaching each and every . . . read more »

Late again - still complaining

Monday, November 08, 2010 8:24:20 PM Categories: Excessive Time O.P.T.

Today our child arrived home at 4:30 PM. That's 10 minutes earlier than Friday, but still 1 hour and 50 minutes in total. Which is unacceptable. So we filed another complaint with OPT.

We decided to let our child take the bus today. The driver assured drop off would be at 3:40 PM. The bus did not arrive until 4:50 PM! That's a 2 hour and 10 minute ride home. We missed therapy appointment and will probably have to pay for it. Filed a complaint with OPT.

Taking No Chances

Today we decided to pick our child up from school after Monday's fiasco (See "Stranded Again" from 11/1/2010). When there are problems with a route, we have gone to school at pick up or drop off time to speak to the bus driver. I arrived at the school 20 minutes before dismissal time, waited, and picked up our child and left with no sign of . . . read more »

Stranded again

Today the principal called at about 3:30 PM to inform us that our child was still at school (dismissal is at 2:40 PM). The bus had still not arrived to bring our child home. The principal was very apologetic and said that there was a "mix-up" with the extended day program and that *all* the kids on the bus were still in school. Our child was ok . . . read more »

Loss of instruction time in the morning

School starts at 8:05. Arrival times on a bus whose route zigs and zags all around the city were ranging from 8:45 to 9:20 the first few weeks of school. This is despite the fact that children were stepping onto this bus as early as 7:00 a.m., that is, spending an average of two hours on their morning commute!* Now (on the fourth . . . read more »

NYC public schools have an extra 150 minutes a week called Extended Day for students who show need based on state test results (taken toward the end of each grade 3 to 8) and/or principal discretion. In the ASD Nest program, grades 1 to 2 use this time to go over lessons they have missed during the day because they are taken out of class . . . read more »
